The [In]Justice Secretary Does the Macarena
“@#$^%*(&^@#!.”
Oh sorry, please do not panic. Your browser is still working perfectly. I can’t help it but utter a sort of bad words of indignation. I am angry, I am foaming in the mouth (apologies to Senator Miriam Santiago). I think I am rabid and I want to bite the great nincompoop of all times — Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales — to death.
Once again, he proved again his greatness (sarcastically) when he recently talked about Jonas Burgos. Jonas Burgos, is an activist that was abducted in broad daylight in a mall in Quezon City. Initial investigations on the plate number of the vehicle used by the abductor is traced to a truck impounded on a military barracks (the impounded vehicle is there but the plate was not, apparently used by the abductor).
The abduction of Jonas is just an instance to a series of murder and abduction that the members of militant and progressive groups face under the Arroyo Administration, an eerie resemblance to the Martial Law years.
This week, Senior State Prosecutor Emmanuel Velasco disclosed that the military is responsible for the abduction of Jonas Burgos. He named six military elements that will be summoned for questioning about the case. This act by the state prosecutor gave light to the case of Jonas, but, on the other hand, placed him in hot water. Because of his “premature disclosure”, the Justice Secretary is considering to kick Velasco out of the case. Aside from the threat of being kicked out of the case, Velasco is received death threats from a certain “Emperor” who said he will be next to Jonas.
This is the face of justice in the Philippines. Justice is carried out by the barrel of a gun. The Justice System is inutile…and this event only worsens the matter. Why kick Velasco out of the case? Is there a conspiracy between the military and Malacanang to silence anyone who is uncovering the truth about the political murders and abductions.
This recent development in Jonas’ case only proved that Gloria Arroyo is dependent and scared of the military that she will do anything, via her Justice Secretary, to silence anyone that twisted the tail of the military. This scenario is indeed scary.
According to an article in Inquirer.net, Gonzalez said Burgos is not a high profile personality, “so I don’t see kung bakit pag-iinitan siya [why everyone is so heated up about him].” Stupid! So this what he thinks of true Justice. He views that public indignation for murder, abuse and abduction are just for people with high-profile like his boss. This left me thinking of what is his view about justice. Does his statement also tell us that justice is just for high-profile persons? Damn! What a nincompoop!
