At this very moment, hundreds of farmers are gathered infront of the Dapartment of Agrarian Reform. They plan to march towards Mendiola (were the infamous “Mendiola Massacre” happened during Aquino Administration). Every year these farmers come from the provinces to air their grievances to the government. Every single year that they went here in the Metro, they shout the same old problems that they face everyday in their provinces. The lack of support from the government, the uselessness of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) and the intimidation from the military are few of the grievances they air every year.
Just like every year that they come to the Metro, their march will fail. The administration had already amassed hundreds of soldiers and policemen to face them and halt their advance. The government will be deaf to their pleas or will give empty promises so to trick the farmers to return to farms “peacefully”.
The farmers will fail, just like every your, as long as we the citizens of this are blind to their predicament and ignore their grievances. I call to everyone to support our farmers, our fellow Filipino to fight for their rights. I pray that we not let them be massacred, metaphorically, like their fellow farmers in the past “Mendiola Massacre.”
